Land of Legends and Lava: Private Snæfellsnes Peninsula Tour

About this experience

The Snæfellsnes Peninsula is often referred to as "Iceland in Miniature" because it showcases many of the diverse landscapes found throughout the country. Within a relatively small area, you can explore volcanic craters, lava fields, glaciers, waterfalls, fjords, and black-sand beaches.

It boasts diverse coastlines with towering sea cliffs, black sand beaches, and picturesque fishing villages. Arnarstapi and Hellnar are charming coastal settlements with beautiful hiking paths and sea arches, providing excellent opportunities for coastal exploration.

Often referred to as the "most photographed mountain in Iceland," Kirkjufell is a free-standing, cone-shaped mountain located near the town of Grundarfjörður. Its unique shape and scenic surroundings make it a popular photography spot.

Itinerary and highlights

The trip begins and we head to our first stop.

Borgarnes is situated along the coast, offering stunning views of the surrounding fjords, mountains, and the sea. The town itself is set in a picturesque location.

It's the birthplace of Snorri Sturluson, a famous medieval historian and politician.

Kirkjufell, or 'Church Mountain', is a distinctly shaped peak found on the north shore of Iceland’s Snæfellsnes Peninsula, only a short distance away from the town of Grundarfjörður. It is often called ‘the most photographed mountain in Iceland’ due to its dramatic formation and perfect coastal location.

Arnarstapi is famous for its dramatic coastal cliffs, which are adorned with unique rock formations and bird colonies. The most prominent of these rock formations is Gatklettur, a massive stone arch that stands as a natural monument on the coastline.

Seal Watching at Ytri Tunga

Ytri Tunga Beach is especially known for its resident seal population. It's one of the best places in Iceland to observe seals in their natural habitat. The beach is home to a colony of harbor seals that can often be seen sunbathing on the rocks and swimming in the surrounding waters. It's a fantastic spot for wildlife enthusiasts and photographers looking to capture these marine mammals.

After finishing our tour we return to the city.
