About this experience
Northern Lights Hunt
We pick you up and whisk you away from the city lights to where we predict the best sightings according to the cloud forecast. Our small tour group allows us to get off the beaten path and away from the crowds to enjoy the Northern Lights in serenity.*
Stargazing with telescope
While waiting for the lights we use our powerful stargazing telescope to explore crude details of the planets in our solar system and deep space phenomena lightyears away. We take photos of everyone under the lights, for free.
Your guides
We spend our winters chasing Northern Lights weather, and our summers chasing Paragliding weather. We know our Icelandic weather! We are local sky enthusiasts and our small and personal tours are designed to make you feel like a part of our team and a part of Iceland.

Planning perspective
How I’d plan this experience
I’d choose this for a Reykjavik evening when you want the Northern Lights hunt to feel like more than a long wait in the dark. The telescope, sky-focused guiding, hot chocolate and included photos give the night useful structure even if the aurora is faint or elusive. It looks particularly well suited to curious first-timers, couples and small groups who enjoy learning as much as ticking off a sighting.
Choose it for the astronomy as well as the aurora
My advice is to book this tour because you genuinely want a guided night-sky experience, not solely because you expect a dramatic aurora display on demand. Northern Lights visibility cannot be guaranteed, and the astronomy element is the strongest practical cushion against that uncertainty: while waiting, the group uses a telescope to look at planets and deep-space phenomena.
I think this is a thoughtful fit for travellers who would otherwise find a weather-dependent hunt frustrating. Feedback repeatedly highlights the guide’s explanations of stars and constellations, so the waiting time can still feel purposeful. If your only priority is maximising the chance of a particular kind of aurora photograph, the inherent uncertainty of the evening remains the central trade-off.
Expect a late, flexible night rather than a fixed outing
I’d plan the evening around the tour rather than squeeze it between other commitments. Pickup runs from 9–9.30 pm during the stated season, the outing lasts three to five hours depending on search conditions, and the go/no-go decision comes at 6.30 pm on the day. That makes it a better choice if you can keep dinner early and remain flexible until the evening forecast is assessed.
Door-to-door central Reykjavik pickup and drop-off make the logistics comparatively simple, but punctuality matters: a missed pickup is treated as a no-show. Have your pickup address settled and watch for the confirmation or cancellation message before you start waiting.
Prioritise warmth and accept the outdoor exposure
This is an easy tour in the sense that it does not demand high fitness, but I would not mistake that for a cosy experience. You will be outside, standing under a midnight sky, potentially in wind and cold. Layers, windproof outer clothing, warm socks, proper shoes, gloves and headwear are a sensible minimum rather than an optional extra.
There is a real comfort trade-off in the hunt itself. Some feedback describes difficult wind, passing vehicle lights and a viewing stop that did not feel well sheltered, while other guests found the small-group format and guide expertise excellent. I’d recommend it to travellers who can stay patient and comfortable outdoors; those highly sensitive to cold, wind or imperfect viewing conditions should weigh that carefully.
Value the small-group extras, but understand the retry policy
I’d favour this over a bare-bones chase if the personal touches matter to you. Groups have a maximum of 14 travellers, with a stated one-guide-to-ten-guests ratio, and the experience includes hot chocolate, an Icelandic pastry and photos under the lights. Those details should make the pauses between sightings more enjoyable, especially for travellers who like a sociable but not large-coach atmosphere.
A no-sighting does not automatically mean the evening was wasted: a free rebooking is offered, subject to availability, within two years. Still, treat that as a useful second chance rather than a guarantee for a short Iceland stay. If you only have one or two suitable nights, I’d choose this for the astronomy and guiding on the first outing, not on the assumption that a retry will fit your itinerary.
