About this experience
Experience the thrill of dog sledding or kart riding with powerful huskies on Iceland’s stunning South Coast. This family-friendly small-group tour offers a 30-minute husky ride, on snow or dry land depending on the season, guided by an experienced musher with a photo break included. Meet one of the first kennels in Scandinavia to feature Greenlandic sled dogs, a rare and authentic Arctic breed. Self-drive is required, but optional Reykjavík pickup and seasonal sled upgrades are available. Don’t miss this unforgettable encounter with Iceland’s winter wilderness and its four-legged athletes.

Planning perspective
How I’d plan this experience
I’d choose this for a compact, hands-on husky experience rather than a full-day wilderness expedition. The core ride is 30 minutes, but the appeal is broader than the distance: you get time around the dogs, a guided ride with a musher, and a photo pause in the landscape. It suits families with children old enough to participate, animal-focused travellers, and Reykjavík-based visitors who want one memorable outdoor outing without committing to a long technical activity.
Choose it for the dogs as much as the ride
My advice is to book this when meeting and learning about the team matters to you, not solely when you want an extended sledding route. The format includes time to greet the dogs and take photographs, while the small shared group is capped at 20 people overall. Groups of four to six ride with the musher per sled or kart, which should make the experience feel more personal than a large coach excursion.
The guide-led element looks especially worthwhile for curious first-timers: recurring traveller feedback highlights the opportunity to interact with the dogs and hear about them, alongside the ride itself. I think that makes this a particularly good fit for families and anyone who would value context over simply ticking off dog sledding.
Decide whether snow is essential before you book
The key choice is not really your skill level—it is whether you specifically want a snow sled. Standard departures run by sled on snow or ice, or by wheeled kart when conditions require it. I’d be open to the kart if the priority is a fast husky-powered outing in any season; feedback suggests it can still be an exciting and comfortable experience without snow.
If your dream is unmistakably a sled gliding over snow, I’d choose the Sled Guarantee option, available from December to mid-April. That is the sensible trade-off: less flexibility in when you travel, in return for avoiding the standard tour’s weather-dependent surface.
Pick transfer if you do not want a moving meeting-point puzzle
I’d choose the Reykjavík transfer option if you are not driving, or if you would rather keep the day simple. Without transfer, you need a rental car, and the precise tour location and any adjusted meeting time arrive close to departure. That can work well for confident self-drivers with a flexible Iceland itinerary, but it is not ideal for anyone trying to lock down every detail far in advance.
With transfer, allow three to four hours in total rather than treating this as a one-hour appointment. The actual husky ride is 30 minutes, so the longer duration reflects the transport and the time around the dogs. Staying in Reykjavík the night before is a prudent way to reduce pressure around the final pickup details.
Treat the practical limits seriously
This is presented as suitable for all physical fitness levels, but I would not read that as universally suitable. Participants must be at least six, children need an adult, pregnancy is not recommended, and there is a stated weight and BMI limit. Dress for wet outdoor conditions in warm waterproof layers and sturdy shoes; a snow or rain suit is available if needed, but it makes sense to arrive prepared rather than rely on that.
The financial trade-off is also firm: cancellations receive no refund, although weather or insufficient-traveller cancellations are listed separately. I’d only commit once your Iceland schedule is stable, especially if the distinction between sled and kart would affect your enjoyment.
