About this experience
See the Snæfellsnes Peninsula, often called "Iceland in miniature", on a private day trip from Reykjavik. Ideal for couples, families and photographers who want lava fields, black beaches, sea cliffs and Kirkjufell mountain in one day, at their own pace.
Follow the coast past the Gerðuberg basalt columns and the seal beach at Ytri Tunga, then see the black church at Búðir. Walk the cliff path at Arnarstapi, view the Lóndrangar sea stacks and the black pebbles of Djúpalónssandur, and climb Saxhóll crater. Finish at Kirkjufell before the drive back.
Expect 11 to 12 hours. Your driver-guide adjusts stops to weather, daylight and your interests. Seal sightings are not guaranteed. Meals are paid locally.

Itinerary and highlights
After pickup in Reykjavik, drive about 1 hour 45 minutes north to a long wall of six-sided basalt columns. Stop order and times may change with weather, daylight and your interests. Meals are paid locally.
Walk to the rocks where harbour seals often rest, mainly in summer. Sightings are not guaranteed.
Photograph the small black church standing alone in the Búðahraun lava field.
Walk the cliff path past the Gatklettur stone arch and the Bárður statue, with seabirds nesting in summer.
See two tall basalt sea stacks rising from the shore, the remains of an old volcanic crater.
Walk down to a black pebble beach inside Snæfellsjökull National Park. Stay well back from the water, as strong waves can reach far up the beach.
Climb about 400 steps to the rim of this crater for views over the lava fields.
Visited when time and road conditions allow, for views of the orange lighthouse and the sea cliffs.
A short stop at this golden sand beach, framed by black lava rock, when time allows.
Walk to Kirkjufellsfoss for the classic view of Kirkjufell mountain behind the small waterfall, then start the drive back to Reykjavik (about 2 hours 30 minutes).
Cross the fjord bridge on the way east, with mountain and sea views.
A short stop at this quiet waterfall when time allows.
An optional drive through this harbour town in summer, when time allows, before the return to Reykjavik.
