Planning perspective
How I’d plan this experience
I’d choose this as a restorative Reykjavik-based experience rather than trying to squeeze another sightseeing stop into the day. The appeal is the combination of outdoor geothermal water, North Atlantic views and the included seven-part Skjól ritual, while the transfer removes the need to organise your own ride. It suits couples, friends and solo travellers looking for a deliberately slow pause; it is less suited to anyone who dislikes changing-room logistics, exposed weather or working around a return bus timetable.
Who I’d recommend it for
This is a strong fit after several active days on Iceland’s roads, when sitting in warm water and moving through a spa sequence will feel more rewarding than another tightly scheduled excursion. The ritual is included with every visit, so I think it makes sense to treat it as the centrepiece rather than dash through it for the infinity-pool photographs.
The setting is also for travellers who enjoy the contrast of warm water and open-air coastal scenery. Be realistic about that exposure: wind and sleet did not stop some visitors from enjoying the lagoon, but the outdoor element is a feature, not something you can avoid. I’d pack a warm hat or headband for the walk between spaces if the forecast looks sharp.
Choose Saman or Sér based on privacy, not the ritual
Both passes include admission and the seven-step ritual, so I’d choose Saman if you are comfortable with shared changing facilities and want the straightforward version of the experience. Feedback suggests the shared area can still work well for travellers who prefer not to pay extra for a private space.
I’d choose Sér when a private changing suite would genuinely improve your comfort, particularly if you value having your own shower and changing space before and after the lagoon. It is a comfort upgrade rather than a different spa itinerary; neither choice should be made in the expectation of a more extensive ritual.
Plan the transfer as part of the experience
My advice is to build a generous buffer around departure, especially if you select hotel or designated-location pickup. You are asked to be waiting 30 minutes before departure for pickup, while meeting-point travellers should arrive at BSÍ at least 15 minutes early. That is a small discipline that protects what should otherwise be a relaxing outing.
The more important pacing decision comes at the end. Return transfers run to a timetable, so decide which departure you want before you fully settle into the lagoon and ritual. I’d avoid planning an inflexible dinner or onward connection immediately afterward; the set 150-minute activity window and shared transfer structure make this better as the main commitment of a half-day.
Expect atmosphere, not unlimited seclusion
I think the North Atlantic-facing infinity pool is the reason to choose this lagoon, but it is still a shared spa rather than a private escape. Go early if a calmer atmosphere matters most; visitor feedback points to busier periods and occasional crowding in a lagoon that is not especially large.
That trade-off need not spoil the visit. The ritual itself has been described as taking around 40 minutes, which gives the experience shape beyond simply finding a spot in the water. I’d frame the outing as a communal, scenic wellness session and reserve expectations of total quiet for another setting.
